What is up with the rabid rumor control from the Obama campaign?
by admin on Feb.04, 2010, under Elections
Isn’t there such a thing as freedom of speech anymore? I don’t like this guy and should be able to say whatever I want to about him. (To be fair here I must admit that I dislike Bush even more.) This is America people, don’t forget it. And why is Obama having an ongoing, online correspondence with Scarlett Johansson? Is this the change we can believe in?

I was contemplating a similar thing. Occasionally I plainly don’t fully grasp how folk could believe you’re inaccurate.

You must keep hope alive and not doubt Mr. Obama.

There’s a difference between rumors and libel, of which the ridiculous “Obama is a Muslim” email falls into. Everybody has the right to defend themselves against slander and libel.

I think the whole thing is silly. It’s just him defending himself against the same “rumors” he has before. Either you believe him or you don’t. I’m not so naive that I do or don’t believe something just because Obama says it is or isn’t so, and this website isn’t going to sway my thoughts either.

The Republicans are always finding new ways to fight dirty. Every Democratic candidate for president, they float some lie about him, sometimes several. They repeat the lies over and over, even after they’ve been discredited.
(Hell, in 2000 they even smeared McCain!)
Democrats are learning to defend themselves from these slime tactics. There are already a dozen ‘urban legends’ about Obama. I read them here myself and wonder which ones are true and which are baloney. There are more than one website now that I can look them up. So I know: Obama is not a Muslim and never was. He does not refuse to salute the flag. He doesn’t refuse to wear flag jewelry. His wife did not make a ‘whitey’ remark. etc. etc.
But Republican smear-meisters haven’t even got started yet. It’s going to be a long year. They’ll come up with more lies, wait and see.

I guess he think he rules the internet. Why should Michelle be off limits when everyone else is fair game. What are they afraid will come out?

Just like I already told some one. We have a right to discuss what ever we want to, and if they don’t like our answers about obama then they don’t have to read them. And if they don’t like the questions about obamas lack of everything, and the truth they don’t want to believe about him, then they don’t have to answer them. And yes, we do have the freedom to dislike anybody we want to. That is what makes America so great. You know, this America that obama and some of his followers seem to think is so bad.

To address your first point:
Your freedom of speech rights are not in any way being violated. You can still say whatever you want about Obama, provided that it is not slander or libel (which are not protected components of free speech in our legal system). On the same note, Obama is legitimately exercising HIS free speech by discrediting rumors against him. There is nothing wrong with any of this.
To address your second point:
Give me a source about this Scarlett Johansson correspondence. Even if he is talking with her, why should we automatically glean a malicious intent from this? Would you have us jump to the conclusion that he is having an affair, just because he might be corresponding with a famous movie star? Have you ever thought about the fact that he might want to utilize Johansson’s star status to boost his candidacy?

I don’t care who loves Obama, hates him, or is just eerily indifferent about him, and I encourage people to share their opinions – that’s freedom of speech.
However, I do take issue with people completely making stuff up and/or circulating groundless rumors about him; ditto for McCain. Let’s have an honest, open discussion about policy, experience and character instead of accusing him of being a Muslim, refusing to recite the pledge of allegiance, tossing kittens off of the Empire State Building, etc. In any other situation these things would be considered libel or slander.

when questions like “is obama tupacs son? ” and “is obama a rapper?” are posted we feel we must point out the moronic behavior.

Sen Obama has a website just for idiots who like to make up and spread lies to smear his campaign. Check it out. I am sure it will answer your comment/question.
March 3rd, 2010 on 5:31 am
In direct response to your question, why would any reasonable intelligent honest human being object to the debunking of lies and unfounded rumors?
March 5th, 2010 on 12:07 pm
There’s “freedom of speech” and then their lies.
If you are not going to vote for Obama because you think:
he’s a muslim
his wife is racist
he wont show is birth certificate
his book contains racial remarks
and that he won’t do the pledge of allegance
(all of these i’ve seen on this website)
than you would be voting based on lies told by the GOP.
Lies! point blank..
It’s not rumor control when a candidate wants to make sure that the people know who he really is. It’s called good campaigning.

There is freedom of speech but what is happening someone says something…tells it wrong to next person, who then goes on to another and keeps on going around so much PEOPLE actually believe it
You will still be free to call him down at every chance you get…hence freedom of speech
The site will be there for people who want the real truth of how the story got started
Yes it is change we can and should believe in…..when John Mc Cain does the same thing to combat his rumours you will understand….even he does not want all this rhetoric
Maybe….just maybe we as Americans can choose between the two of them…without all the BS and Biased media and debate on real facts
May the best man win
As a Obama supporter hope it is him if not will get behind Mc Cain as president
