What do you think of Michelle Obama’s campaign?

To fight childhood obesity. I’m all for healthier kids but right off the top, I’ll disagree with one statement she made;
“One in three American children is overweight or obese…”.
I don’t think so. Where does that come from? What standard does she use for that statement?
Anyways, here is the four part plan:
“Her campaign has four parts: helping parents make better food choices, serving healthier food in school vending machines and lunch lines, making healthy food more available and affordable, and encouraging children to exercise more. ”

I’m for all of it, except have a question about “making healthy food more available and affordable”. What does that mean? I mean, how is that going to be achieved? Sounds like the farming industry had better brace themselves again.
What do you think? Healthier food, etc. is all great but what’s government going to do? Welcome to the nanny state.

I’m all for kids getting off of their duffs, but that starts with good parenting. I wish her luck in her endeavors.

It’s actually not a bad cause. Too bad it’s being spearheaded by a woman who hates America.

Just by changing the commodity cheese to beanee weenees it would really help. they are made of chicken parts now. Not sure how she can change what a mom makes at home for the family. i know a lot of the frozen food and ice cream home delivery people sell stuff that is like half saturated fat and 2400 mgs of salt, not very healthy and many poor and elderly buy from them for the convenience. Like pizzas, 100% of fat and sodium.

Wow, how dare the First Lady be concerned with the issue of childhood obesity and trying to prevent health problems in their future. The nerve!! Have you seen these little butterballs waddling around Main Street USA lately? Let’s not forget their lard **** parents who teach/allow kids their bad eating habits. But hey, let’s do nothing and then complain later on the sky high cost of treating some of the diseases associated with obesity.

I don’t think she has the qualifications nor would i want someone who is ashamed of our country to instruct our children, however, I recall JFK’s physical fitness plan, add that and take away the video games and computer time , for them limit their soft drink intake and provide your own child with a well balanced diet and no problem, its all just proper parenting 101.
edit: I agree with foxhole as well

Brace themselves for what? More subsidies?
There have been attempts made at improving the quality of public school food even during Reagan’s administration. Nanny state? Jeez, you’re thick.
And, she’s probably underestimating the percentage of fat kids out there.
Look around. Americans got fat. Kids got fat.
They eat factory farmed crappy food full of hormones.
I don’t have kids. But, if I did and they went to public school, I’d be happy to hear that somebody was trying to improve the quality of school lunches.

The role of the first lady is not to run the country that is her husband’s job. Being a dutiful wife to our president, she provides a comfortable and relaxing home for him when he is not “downstairs” dealing with our nation’s problems. Also, she is concerned with the health and welfare of her children.
Obesity has tripled in children in the last 30 or so years and Michelle has this problem as her primary focus in America today. Black and Latino children are even more at risk than white children. Childhood diabetes is also skyrocking due to obesity.
Michelle Obama’s focus on this issue could not be more timely as our children are the nation’s future leaders and someone has to show them how to stay healthy and avoid obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer among other life-threatening diseases.
If that issue is not important enough, I would like to hear about one that is. In addressing children’s health, she will also be addressing education, behavior modification, and helping parents cope with rising costs and supportive measures to them.
Parents need to start feeding their kids home-cooked meals and making their own treats, i.e. cake and cookies so they know what goes into them. Restaurants seldom even know what their supplier is giving them. Everyone is try to make a living and they do what they have to do.
Taking control of your life and your health means going to the grocery store and selecting your own foods and going home and cooking them properly and planning out meals for the week. No one wants to be bothered with that anymore and that is why people eat randomly without much thought. They are hungry and grab something and it becomes a cycle that is hard to break.
What is more important that this? It’s huge!
Basically people need to stay home and start cooking again and stay out of the restaurants. They are expensive and do not provide that home-cooked touch no matter how good it tastes.
